“Human activity is causing the extinction of animal, plant and microbial organisms at rates that may well eliminate one-fourth species on Earth within the next 50 years.” Encyclopedia of Occupational Health and Safety, 2011.
‘The Anthropocene Era’ is the visual diary of an explorer and scientist, journeying through a changed world. Around 80 years from now, ecological destruction, caused by mankind’s impact upon the earth, has caused irrevocable climate change and mass extinctions.
Animal species have declined at an alarming rate, eventually dying out altogether. However, due to ecological divergence, many plant species have managed to adapt and survive.
The scientist has travelled to the far reaches of the country, traversing a bleak and desolate landscape. She is finding and documenting new flora, in the hope this will save a dying world. The mutations of plant species could hold the key to resurrecting animal life, and saving humanity.
Her visual diary, seen here, conveys the abandonment and destruction of traditional industries and wildlife.
